Professor Takoi Hamrita |
As a student and as a faculty member, Dr. Hamrita has made choices to embrace a bigger picture than the one dictated by traditional engineering boundaries to counter balance the pull towards narrow specialization. She was the first student in the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering at GA Tech to cut across three different areas of expertise for her Ph.D. degree (Control Systems, Digital Signal Processing, Power Systems) and work with three Ph.D. co-advisors instead of one.
As a teaching scholar, Dr. Hamrita has developed innovative teaching pedagogy for teaching electrical engineering courses to biological engineers. She has secured substantial funding for these instructional programs among which a grant from the National Science Foundation. Due to her commitment to quality teaching, Dr. Hamrita has received several teaching awards, including the UGA's Lilly and Russell awards. As a research scholar, she is leading a research program with an international reputation. She served as part of an interdisciplinary research cluster from several universities in Georgia funded by the Georgia Research Alliance (GRA) whose goal is to develop smart sensing technology to advance Georgia's industries and spur economic growth and development. Dr. Hamrita also holds several leadership positions in international professional societies.
